ABOUT US

Strategic Planning Unit

The Strategic Planning Unit (SPU) was established in February 2001 as a part of the President’s Office. During the period of September 2010 to November 2020, the SPU changed its name into the Strategic Planning and Provost’s Office.  It was subsequently reverted to the SPU since December 2020 to reflect its role more clearly.

The SPU aims to provide support to the Senior Management Team in tasks related to the University's strategic planning, covering areas like academic planning, academic structure, resource planning, funding methodology, and campus development.

Academic Planning

The University Grants Committee (UGC) follows a triennial planning cycle for the recurrent grant allocation exercise to the UGC-funded universities. During the process, the University is required to prepare a Planning Exercise Proposal to critically review recent developments, and on that basis, put forward development proposals for the upcoming triennium that correspond with the role and mission as well as the evolving needs of the community.

Resources Planning

To ensure that financial resources are deployed such that the strategic goals of the University can be met efficiently, robust mechanisms and processes are in place to provide guiding reference for resources planning and allocation among faculties and centres.

Campus Development

The University is actively taking forward a range of strategic capital works projects to enhance its teaching and learning as well as research environment for its students and staff. These projects also seek to accelerate Hong Kong’s growth into an international hub for post-secondary education and an international innovation and technology centre.
